The Region
Nafplios Apartments are situated in the suburb of Aria, about 2km from Nafplio on the way to Tolo.
The apartments are easy to find, and are only 1.5 hour's drive from Athens.
Getting There
From Athens, follow the Attiki Odos as far as Corinth. From there Nafplio is signposted. Exit the motorway at the Nemea Interchange.
The road gets smaller, follow it past Mycenae towards Nafplio.
When you enter Nafplio, follow signs for Tolo. The apartments are on a side road off the main dual carriageway, opposite the 'Sinialo' furniture shop.
Apart from the obvious sight-seeing of ancient sites, there is lots to do in the region. Swimming, hiking, skiing (on both snow and water!) and shopping are all well catered for...
Things to do
Nafplio
The town of Nafplio is a short drive from the apartments and has plenty to interest the visitor.
There are some great cafes, tavernas and shops in the narrow pedestrian streets of the old town.
Nafplio was the first capital of Greece post revolution in 1832, and there are many Turkish influences to be seen, including the mosque that was used to house Parliament, on the edge of Constitution Square.
Boat trips will take you to the island fort of Bourtzi in the bay, which was used at one point to house trhe guillotine...
If you are feeling energetic why not climb the 999 steps up to the castle Palamidi? You'll be rewarded with fantastic views!
Eating Out
Nafplion's town has many tavernas to choose from. The Koutouki is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is very pleasant.
On a summer's evening it is hard to beat an evening meal at one of the tavernas on the beach at Vivari.
Beaches
Argolida boasts four blue flag awarded beaches, and there are endless miles of coastline with secluded bays waiting to be discovered. A few highlights are:
* Karathona: Just outside Nafplion town, reached either by car past the fortress of Palamidi, or by foot along a coastal path, is the beautiful bay of Karathona. With a wide sandy beach, clear shallow waters and tree-lined shore it is very popular and worth a visit if you are in Nafplio.
* Tolo - Psilli Ammos: The beach at Tolo can become crowded in the height of summer, and when you see the view and the soft sand, it's easy to see why! A nearby alternative if it gets too busy is Plaka, which is not quite as picturesque but affords more space. |
